A view of the starboard F2T diaphone or foghorn, which was operated by compressed air. This unit had a nominal range of four miles, but if you were standing where the camera is now positioned, the noise would be ear shattering. Panning clockwise you will see the port diaphone with the Matson Shipping Terminal in the background. Beyond the port searchlight is the west end of Jack London Square. At the top of the foremast is the original 375mm Fresnel duplex lens which had a range of 14 miles. A simplex version of this lens can be seen close up on display in the Crews Berthing panorama. Beyond the starboard searchlight is the Oakland Fireboat and the USS Potomac, another historic ship.
